Started bowling in 1958. Some of his accomplishments include: Minneapolis All Events Champion, Minneapolis City Team Champion; three CBA Championships; 1 Midwest Seniors Championship; Heartland Classic Champion; Northern Minnesota Match Game Champion in 1965; and 1 Minnesota State Team Championship. International Accomplishment is European All Events Champion in the Military in 1964-65. National accomplishments include the following: Represented Minnesota in US Opens in 1970, 1972 and 1974; Peterson Classic Doubles Champion with Tom Berken; Peterson Classic Team Champions twice; High Average in Baltimore Masters in 1967 and 1968; member of a 10 man squad that won the Hoinke Classic in 1983 and Chippewa Valley Match Game Champion.

City Accomplishments include: Association Team Champion in 1974; Association Singles Actual Champion in 1974; Association Singles Handicap Champion in 1974; Association Team Champion in 1977; Association Doubles Actual Champion in 1978 with Charlie Tapp with a 1493; Association Doubles Handicap Champion in 1978; won the Jerry Noonan award; Association Team Champion in 1979; Member of the St. Paul All City Team in 1973-74, 1976-77, 1977-78 and 1978-79; King of the All City Team in 1978-79; St. Paul 700 Club Champion once; bowled highest series in St. Paul with an 823 in 1979 and Minnehaha Doubles Champion with Tom Berken. His High game is 300 and his high series is 836 rolled in a 2000 PBA Tournament in Chicago. Other Tournament wins include Sunset Lanes Singles Champion in Moorhead Minnesota and Kiel Speil Team Champion in Hibbing Minnesota.

Jim was a Minnesota State Bowling Association Director for 2 years; wrote a daily bowling column for 15 years and was a member of the Bowling Writers Association of America; City Association Secretary for 2 years; League secretary for over 10 years; one of the original directors of the CBA and the MSC. He is very active in the MSC and has volunteered many hours to try and make it a success.
