Meritorious Service

Ed has served as President of the Greater St. Paul Bowling Association for two years and was a Director for over 16 years. During his time as a Director of the Greater St. Paul Bowling Association, he chaired the following committees: Nominating and Steering, Suspension and Hearing, Membership Services and Legislative. He also chaired the Open Team Challenge Tournament for 8 years as well as working at numerous other tournaments, both Local and State, and chaired the Jerry Tessman ABC Presidential Installation Festivities Tournament. He was the SPAN BA/WBA Joint Newsletter Coordinator for 4 years. He was selected as Director of the Year once. He is also a nationally certified lane inspector and has assisted in lane certification for 14 years. He served as a Delegate to the National Convention for 12 years and attended many seminars and workshops, and has bowled in the National Championship Tournament for 15 consecutive years. He was a Director for the Minnesota State Men’s Bowling Association for 6 years, as well as a Delegate to their annual meetings prior to joining the State Board. He also served on the 2009 State USBC Nominating Committee. Ed is also a Lifetime ABC/USBC Member. Along with donating his time on the Local Bowling Association, he also donated a Lifetime ABC/USBC membership that was raffled at the Local Annual Membership Meeting. While serving the Local Association, his greatest accomplishment was putting the Association in for the ABC Award of Merit, which was won by the Greater St. Paul Bowling Association on its first try. To follow that, he submitted the Association the following year for the ABC Presidential Award of Merit and that was also won on his first try. Additionally, he twice took charge of making application to ABC National Association for monetary grants that were both awarded to the Greater St. Paul Bowling Association and used to further enhance the SPAN

Newsletter. The original website of the St. Paul Bowling Association was built by Ed with the help of his son. These all required a lot of his time and effort. Ed currently bowls on three leagues and is Secretary/Treasurer of one and President of another. Three years ago he started a league with 6 teams and the following year it grew to 11 teams which were comprised of 33 first time bowlers. At one time he bowled in three leagues and subbed in two others. He has been Secretary/Treasurer, President and Vice President of various leagues for the past 30 years. In that time he started 4 new leagues and twice merged different failing leagues into viable certified leagues the following year. He also worked with one of the local Bowling centers to give free games of bowling to the local elementary school which were awarded by the teachers to students in an effort to get them interested in bowling and at the same time assisting in growing the sport. Ed’s highest game is 300 and his highest series is 790. His highest final season average is 201.
